      There are tons of dev type boards but none have the community and software support of the Raspberry Pi. Lakka does a pretty good job of supporting different kinds of hardware

      @simonster for the record though lakka does have wifi integrated now and it can be configured through xmb but retropie is obviously going to have more of a selection

      @AlexMurphy Yes they did. I didn't convert them and it's not a file ownership issue.
      It was the bios the old bios I was using SCPH1001.BIN. And downloaded the same one from a trusty website and voilá problem solved.
      Thanks for the brainstorming @AlexMurphy. it really helped.

      @chuskie yep it may be an OS incompatibility. Usually on Windows and retropie the directory format may differ and the build fails to load the images. Tried to check Kodi error log? If not try looking in these directories for the LOG file:

      Android: {storage}/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/temp/kodi.log iOS: /private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/Kodi/kodi.log Mac: /Users/{my_user_name}/Library/Application Support/Kodi/kodi.log Windows: C:\Users{user_name}\AppData\Roaming\Kodi\kodi.log Linux: ~/.kodi/kodi.log OpenELEC: /storage/.kodi/kodi.log OSMC: /home/osmc/.kodi/temp/kodi.log XBian: /home/xbian/.kodi/temp/kodi.log Raspberry Pi: /home/pi/.kodi/kodi.log

      @Twitch0815 said in How to use cheats on N64 in RetroPie?:

      Both Pixel-Desktop environment and Kodi are launchable from the Emustation and via Kodi Youtube is available.
      Pixel can be enabled via Retropie-Setup - > Configuration Tools - > Raspian tools and Kodi can be installed from the optional packages menu.

      Thank you very much for this information.

      I'm not entirely sure what I should be asking for in this Ideas & Development thread you suggested making. Can you clear up what you had in mind there?

      I upgraded from a Pi2 to a Pi3 by switching the card over, the only thing I had to do other than replace the power supply, was to check the wireless settings as I used to have a Edimax USB wifi, and I moved over to use the Pi3's internal wireless.

      @Caligula88 first thing to note:
      Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first

      Now, 2 questions:

      Did you configure your joysticks on emulationstation? Paste here the output of this command: ls /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-joypads/

      I know for my Wii U controller, I couldn't get RetroArch hotkey shortcuts to work as I wanted until I went into the config file and manually added the start button as the "exit" button. But it took me awhile at first to understand how the hotkeys worked (didn't know what hotkey option meant when I set up the controller in emulation station because it didn't do that in my Reys image).

      @anasazi29

      never copy and paste the python script. HAND type it. its not that big and it wont take that long.

      Now that you said this, I noticed on your original post that you had something like “shutdown -h now” but those quotes aren't recognized as quote by the RPi. They need to be ASCII quotes like this "shutdown -h now" so when you retyped it by hand you actually fixed these quotes!

      We just talked about this the other day.

      I'm sure there are some ppl just <sighing> about this and think that its silly that I got these confused

      I wouldn't worry about that and most of the ppl on this forum are here to help and to learn. Hopefully someone else finds this and it helps them resolve their wrong use of quotation dilemmas lol.

      @anasazi29 Broadly speaking, here is what you need to do: You need a python script that will watch a GPIO pin (that you have wired to a normally open switch like an arcade button--other wire to ground) such that when the button is pressed, the script sends a keypress. The key you send (suggestion: "ESC") would have to be picked up by the emulator as EXIT. So, you will have to go into your retroarch.cfg file, disable the hotkey function, and set the EXIT function to "ESC".

      I know of a few ways this has been done in the past. One of the more popular is to use the adafruit Retrogame software. This basically takes care of the scripting process and leaves it up to you to configure what keys the GPIO pins trigger. Some folks use ONLY this solution for input control.

      I also like mholgatem's GPIOneer which does the same thing, but uses a more elegant interactive configuration, then a web interface once it is setup. It is also easy to configure combo keys and to send full commands (I use it to send commands to increase and decrease master volume).

      @BuZz Thanks for all the info.

      I am pretty new to Linux but I think I should be okay with the VPN portion of it by following a guide.

      As for enabling VPN on boot for RetroPie, that should be as simple correct? Just SSH into the Pi and edit the settings there?

      Sorry for the dumb questions!

      The 8bitdo controllers are nice, and provided you follow all the installation instructions and update the firmware on the controller it'll work really well.

      My other retro controller is the wired iBuffalo SNES pad, - it only has one set of shoulder buttons and no sticks but it's plug and play and works well.

      I like the option of a bluetooth controller because I also run an Amiga emulator and wanted to have a second wired controller, mouse, keyboard and USB stick using up the ports.
